On a tip from a local, we went for lunch on a lazy Monday. Sean, our host, server and bartender was warm welcoming. He was so good at all of it, I thought he owned the place, but he assured us he was just an enthusiastic employee. I had a frozen strawberry margarita. It was made to order and what didn't fit in the glass came in a cup on the side. It tasted better than machine made. Had 2 lbs of Alaskan King Crab for just $26.99. It was fresh and delicious. The chef was culinary trained. Imperial Grouper, Smoked Tuna, even the cole slaw was great. We finished up with home made Key Lime Pie. Also a winner. The outside can fool you. Looks like nothin' special. But the Keys casual interior has some quirky good art and the food was fresh, reasonable and delicious. Lastly, our three little boys were with us and Sean couldn't have been more accommodating or nicer.

We went in for a quick lunch. Since we're on the coast we both went for the grilled grouper sandwich. The service was a perfect blend of attentive and friendly, I don't like over the top service and our waitress was great. I took the top part of the bun off and had it as an open sandwich. The grouper inside was excellent, grilled perfectly and not dried out at all. Exactly what I wanted to taste. Our waitress told me that the coleslaw was amazing. I wasn't sure how you could get worked up about coleslaw .... until it arrived!! It was amazing. We finished with a lovely piece of Key Lime Pie and left very happy.

This is our second night in a row here. Did not disappoint. The Smoked Tuna Dip was great. I had the crab stuffed shrimp. It was outstanding. Still not as good as the salmon special I had last night but definitely delicious!

I've been coming to PCB for 20+ years since my family has a condo down here, and while I know this restaurant isn't that old, where have I been for the past few years! In the mood for something new, I turned to the trusty Yelp to help me find a place. We got to Hognose Snapper at about 7:30 on a Friday night. The place wasn't packed, and there was no wait. WIN! My husband and I were greeted promptly and had drink orders taken immediately. Our server, Sabrina, was very helpful and friendly throughout our whole meal! We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were delicious. I ordered the blackened mahi mahi sandwich with the sautéed squash, and my husband had the crab legs with fries. I have absolutely nothing but rave reviews. The bread for my sandwich was light and fresh, and I loved that it had spring mix on it instead of a slimy piece of iceberg lettuce. My husbands fries were amazing. They might be the best fries I've ever had. We got a brownie to go, and it's all homemade goodness. We will be coming back! The atmosphere and food are right up my alley!

This place was surprisingly tasty. When we walked in I wasn't expecting much. The decor leaves much to be desired. But I don't get let down by Yelp reviews often, and it was pouring outside, so we decided to give this place a go. The waitress was very nice, and the food was really well done. Not over cooked, well done. Just really done well. We had the tuna dip which came with a yummy chutney and some jalepenos and what looked to be homemade chips. Really good. Then we had a caesar salad, and it tasted like there were anchovies in the dressing. For me that's a definite plus. Last we had the dinner special which was top sirloin with crab meat and portabella mushrooms all on garlicky mashed potatoes. Really good. And looked good too!

This place was incredible. The Bronze Mahi Mahi was to-die-for. No literally, my Uncle Henry took one last bite and keeled right over. Had a heart attack right on the table. As the light of his life was flying out beyond the shores of Panama City Beach, he had a smile on his face and his last words were, "This is the best, fresh-seafood restaurant in the whole city." I then ate his shoe-string onion rings and kissed his forehead. This place was hands-down scrumptious. #NoRagerts

The meal was extraordinary! The French fries were very enjoyed by everyone at the table, while the lobster bisque was amazing! The saltiness was spot-on, and the potatoes tasted very fresh. The menu has so many choices to choose from. The service was very efficient, and the waiters were really polite. The table arrangement was very unique and creative. I really enjoyed this outing.

Great! Food was fast & delicious - lobster spring rolls & crab stuff chicken were fabulous!

Beyond impressed, the tuna dip is exquisite and the main course followed suite. Stuffed myself stupid then the waitress suggested Creme Brule for dessert and that topped the meal.

  • Binh C.

The service was excellent and the food portions were huge. Considering the quality and quantity of food that you get, it is the biggest bargain on the beach! The chef makes everything from scratch, even the fried squid appetizers down to the hands cut french fries. Very impressed.

We were looking forward to eating here based on friends recommendations. We were doing some painting projects so looked up their hours on Yelp to make sure we didn't miss them...according to Yelp they are open until 9 PM on Sunday nights. We pulled into their parking lot at 8:38 PM. They. flipped off their lights as we started to park...very unprofessional. If you state your hours then you should be professional and honor those hours. Unfortunately I can't comment on their food as we didn't get ANY. : -(

My daughter and I was looking for a local restaurant with awesome sea food. We found it! We started with the lobster spring rolls and they were flaky and deliciousness. AMAZING ...... My daughter had the entree of crab cakes with potatoes with a side of peel and eat shrimp .... A perfect meal. I had the crab stuffed chicken that was moist and tender with a delightful seasoning. The homemade bread was fresh and warm. We absolutely loved this place ... Will definitely return when we are PCB

The environment was great and the service was fantastic. The tuna dip is worth going back but i would not order anything else. Calamari was a fried clump with no flavor. Snapper was over fried so just tasted like burnt deep fryer. Wish the food was better and I would go back.

Even with the wait this place is amazing!!! 2 lbs of crab legs, a smoked tuna dip that was to die for. Fried green tomatoes and calamari. And a key lime pie to top it off. Everyone in our party is stuffed to the gills and very happy! Big two thumbs up!!

  • Brad B.

Great place to eat. Tuna dip is unreal! We had the Imperial Grouper which was delicious and the crab cakes were just as good. Good portions and a very nice wait staff. Will be back when we return to PCB

There menu is unlike any other in the beach. The chef makes everything fresh. Look our for the specials there are some great things they offer there that will blow your mind. The atmosphere is pleasant and your food will be delish. I recommend this to all the tourists looking for something non commercial. You won't be disappointed!

Had dinner there last night. I would describe the place as "hit-or-miss." The service started off slow. We got out own menus off a rack on the wall after sitting 10 minutes, drinks, appetizers came slow, but then the service became above average. Be sure to get the Caesar Salad, it is exceptionally good. The entree we ordered was the seafood platter. Again "hit-or-miss". The grouper was fishy tasting but the shrimp and oysters were the best I've had in a long time. The crab cake was superb. Finally, a large table of 8 came in, had been drinking beforehand (I suspect) and were so loud it was impossible for the other guests to talk at the tables. Nothing was done to ask them to quieten. We left. I would have "hit" 3 stars, but I "missed" and gave them a 2. The experience was inconsistent.

My family of 4 decided to try this restaurant after reading several online reviews. As we entered, two fellow diners were receiving their meals: a delicious looking steak covered with onion strings. My wife, my son, and myself immediately decided that's what we wanted. My daughter ordered popcorn shrimp. The ribeye we ordered, cooked medium rare, was cooked well. It was gristly, even for a ribeye and the "mixed vegetables" served with it more closely resembled a spaghetti sauce. It was also served in a shallow bowl, making it difficult to cut. My daughter enjoyed her shrimp despite being served cocktail sauce instead of ketchup with it (:/ she is six...seriously?!). Drinks were OK although when served a refill on non-sweetened tea I got no additional ice. In the grand scheme of things, not the worst meal ever but also not worth the $75 price after tip.

Here's a tip, this place is horrible! Our server was absolutely terrible and he didn't know anything about the menu or even the specials! He couldn't tell us anything without having to check on everything twice. He brought us burnt bread and flat beer. Go anywhere else, it will be worth it I promise.

Excellent food and great service. Priced very reasonably and great variety of seafood & land-lovers food (steak & chicken dishes).

  • Patricia C.

Great and friendly service. Nice casual atmosphere. Food just wasn't that good. Imperial grouper over battered and drenched in sauce that tasted like something you'd cook in ur crock pot. To salty overly savory if that's possible . The 2 handfuls of fried onions on top only made it worse. Jasmin rice was delicious. Fried oysters were typical. Coconut snapper was good. Needed Less black beans more seasoning. The cost didn't not match up with the food.

Stopped by on a whim with my wife. Friendly staff and quick service. Shrimp was succulent and sweet and the grouper was divine. You kinda have to look for it, but definitely worth the find.

Over the years i've had folks recommend Hognose Snapper in PCB but recently made my first visit. The food surpasses my expectations!!! Enjoyed grouper imperial and shrimp and grits. There aren't sufficient words to tell you how amazing our meals were!!! If you're in the area and want a true dining experience - visit Hognose Snapper!! I promise you will not be disappointed!!

What a great find! After spending an entire day on the beach, I'm usually not in the mood to wait an hour for a table at a huge restaurant with the blinking pagers and diabetes-inducing portions. I would have passed this place right by if I didn't know what I was looking for. The signage kind of reminds me of a roadside buffet, but the inside is warm, inviting and casual. Dinner was delicious and totally hit the spot. I ordered a perfectly cooked piece of grouper topped with crab and accompanied with jasmine rice and veggies. The seafood platter was also excellent. (Note: I don't eat a lot of fried food because I don't like fried food. For me to say this about a dish like this is a huge). Service was perfect, atmosphere is ideal for locals and families and entrees run about $15 /each. Can't wait to come back on our next trip!

Simple menu, qualities ingredients, and a unique ambiance. I will come back for sure. I ordered the day's special, a beefsteak sandwich, and also had some of the tuna dip. Both were fantastic, especially given that I'd never had tuna dip before and generally haven't been a fan of tuna products.

Oh my gosh! What a great find!!! We were in PCB vacationing and we tried all the "touristy" spots. Last night, we wanted to try something more local. My daughter found Hognose Snapper (on Yelp - thanks Yelpers) and we could not have been happier with her choice (wish we would have found it earlier in the week!!!). FOOD: OUTSTANDING! Appetizers re great. Green fried Tomatoes and Smoked Tuna Dip (awesome). Paneed Grouper was excellent; Blackened Mahi Mahi as well. My son had the Chicken Alfredo - very good!Shrimp Fried Rice was outstanding as well. All in all - a great meal!!! PRICE: OUTSTANDING! All four of us had appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks for $100. Grants we took advantage of the early bird special (3-6p). I encourage you to do the same. SERVICE/ATMOSPHERE: The best part of the evening! Lexi was exceedingly cordial; This is a nice family restaurant. Regulars struck up a conversation with us. Out-of-towners felt comfortable asking us how we liked our meal. Such a great time. If we lived here, we would be regulars too! Thanks Hognose Snapper!

After several other duds on the beach, we were glad to find a place with great service and epic eats. Everything we had was great. Calamari, fried oysters, peel and eat shrimp, and fried green tomatoes. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend making a stop by this quaint spot.

We had a so-so experience. It's clear that this is a locals place, which we usually like. Our server, Ryan, was great even though he was incredibly busy, he was on too of our needs. The homemade bread was amazing. The things that I'm giving it three stars for are the service, the bread, the fries and the coleslaw. All of those were top notch. The disappointment started early with the lobster spring rolls which had NOT ONE BIT of lobster in them, but had a tiny bit of shrimp in them. The disappointment continued with the lobster bisque, which tasted like potato soup with a tiny bit of shrimp stock and sugar in it. We shared the seafood platter, and it was also a disappointment. The grouper was fishy, the butterfly shrimp were rubbery, the bay scallops were mediocre. The crab cake was mushy, but almost burnt on the outside. I probably won't return.

A small but awesome getaway from the poor service and food so often seen at the larger restaurants... Our whole family join in on a whim to try this one out; A little stress was in the air but quickly put to rest with a waiter who was friendly and service that's was seldom seen. We order a variety of choices for 10 people and all had great reviews even the cream brûlée was excellent! I would not order the cheese grits just yet but that's a southern thing. I recommend you stop in and pay yourself with a treat, it certainly better than schooners, and the rest on beach at this point! They even, have a sense of humor!

Excellent ! The tuna dip and grouper imperial was fantastic! Waitress was very nice and attentive. Very glad we found it on yelp.

My hubs and I visited this restaurant after reviewing some Yelp reviews. It was as good as the other reviewers said. The service was friendly and quick, the food was amazing. I had the Grouper Imperial and it was unbelievable! The crab cake was tender and delicate and without a lot of breading. The dish was perfect. My hubs had the special which was steak and shrimp. It was also amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

  • Lyle H.

Well, loved it 1st time. Not so much 2nd. The lobster bisque seemed "old". The tuna dip bland, and the grouper watery/rubbery like thawed on sink. No dessert after the disappointment. Don't know what to think. Chef night off? Tuesday night before New Years. I'll try again and report

The service and food was great. I recommend the crab cakes or the seafood sampler. I promise you won't be disappointed. Get there early for the specials.

We have eaten here twice. Everything we ordered on both occasions was excellent!!! This is not your typical beach restaurant. Not only is the food amazing, presentation is professional!!! Prices are very reasonable as well! Treat yourself!!!

We walked in and got a table for 9 without waiting! Great waiter & everyone's food was incredible! Kids had hand battered chicken strips & popcorn shrimp, adults had crab cake stuffed chicken & other wonderful dishes. All of the sides were so good! We will definitely be going back there!!

I'm here for a month at Panama City Beach, and the folks we're renting from raved about the Hognose Snapper. With high expectations set (and reinforced by mostly positive reviews here and on Urbanspoon), I'm glad to say that my first visit met or exceeded them. I went in for lunch on Wednesday and ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer, followed by the grouper sandwich-blackened-for my main meal. The crab cakes came quickly. Prepared Marlyand-style, they were full of crab and not too heavy on the breading, and the flavor was quite good. If I were to pick on anything, it would only be that you only get two and they aren't huge, so at $8 they come in a little pricey. Fortunately, my grouper sandwich felt like a steal relative to other places up and down Thomas Drive. Coming in at $10 and loaded with grouper (see the picture I uploaded), it was undoubtedly one of the better sandwiches I've had in the area. Plus, I asked them to blacken it up very well, and they hit the mark perfectly. Topping it off, my server was about as friendly, helpful, courteous, and polite as she could be. My only real gripe is price. Most of the prices have crept compared to some of the menu photos I saw on Urbanspoon (e.g, I noted the Grouper Imperial runs $18 now), so while this place might once have been an incredible deal on most things, that's probably not true anymore. That said, I was impressed with the portion and flavor on my sandwich so much that I'll definitely stop in again next week! Coming from me, that's a pretty high endorsement.

Wow great food ..and lots of it. Come hungry. If you are staying at hotel think about sharing..portions are large. Kids loved it. We had Mahi and halibut..lobster spring rolls and calamari. All very good. Hidden gem

Great place, can't believe it took me so long to go here. Best Grouper Sandwich I've had and it's reasonably priced. My only complaint is that they don't take American Express even though the book that the check comes in was given to them by American Express with its logo on it.

I often lament the restaurant choices at the beach. Everywhere seems like the same place serving the same food. This place has something special that makes it unique. Very unassuming exterior, but the food is great. I had the seafood platter, which was one of the best I've ever had. The seafood is lightly fried with a touch of something (nutmeg maybe?) that makes it extra good. My girlfriend had the grouper, which was delicious. Do yourself a favor and try this place.

Second time we've eaten here and a home run each time. Vegetables are delicious, the seafood is amazing, and the gumbo is terrific. The atmosphere is relaxed and kid friendly, and the staff is the friendliest around.

Although most of reviews are good. Don't order the lobster bisque or the lobster spring rolls both were terrible. But my husband had Grouper sandwich and said it was good.

Fabulous experience! The smoked tuna dip was delicious! The cheese grits were to die for!!! I had the blackened mahi mahi and it was really good as well! We are going back there tonight for dinner again!

pleasantly surprised as we pulled into the parking lot and seriously did not look appealing however we were looking for some good seafood/grouper. Food was delicious, not busy as the waitress was telling us January is not a busy month for them. we will return in our travels

HogNose Snapper is the place to go for some fresh delicious food. I read some reviews on Panama City restaurants and this one had nice reviews. My wife and I decided to try it out for lunch. It was fantastic. The atmosphere is pleasant, the prices fair, and the service on our first visit was impeccable. We both had the daily special which was the Blackened Snapper BLT w/remoulade & French Fries. FRESH is the word. Homemade buns and the best coleslaw my wife and I have ever had. Sorry Mom!

  • Nicole V.

Skip. Restaurant smelled bad. They must have ran out of the "good" bread, because ours was nothing special. Wished I would have stayed home and had peanut butter toast. Husband had grouper. It was fine. I had gumbo. Ehhhh.

  • Kristin H.

Delicious food!! We come to The Gulf yearly and since 2013, it was added to our "must eat at" list. You can tell that the seafood is fresh, unlike many other restaurants here: meaty shrimp/scallops and crab cakes to die for. The steak is melt in your mouth good!! We are considering revisiting this place for a second time on this vacation just to try some other menu selections. Must try: fried seafood platter, ribeye, lobster rolls.

I would definitely go there every time I'm in Panama City. Delicious sandwiches, large portion, and very affordable prices. Couldn't ask for more, I love it!

We found the Hognose Snapper after reading a few Urbanspoon reviews on local PCB restaurants. It did not disappoint. My husband and I shared the fried seafood sampler. it was more than ample. The fresh homemade bread was delicious before the meal. The sampler includes shrimp, scallops, a crab cake and grouper. It tasted fresh caught and was delicious. Being antique buffs, we loved the decor. The service was excellent and the owner was very gracious and friendly. We will definitely be planning a return trip.

We have been faithful fans since finding this little place at their old location last year! Our hearts skipped a beat when we found they weren't in the original building! Thankfully they have moved just down the street to a larger location! The food is wonderful! Owner chef and wife run this place. The smoked tuna appetizer is to die for....we took home an extra order for munchies! The grouper, no matter how chef fixes it has always been excellent! The Coconut Shrimp appetizer is great! We've never left this establishment hungry or disappointed!
